I am a sports and remedial massage therapist (soft tissue therapist). I treat recreational and pre-existing conditions: other muscle groups consequently affecting posture, and causing referred pain in other areas.
LSSM Dip.5: ISRM; CNHC approved; myofascial work; trigger point therapy and currently studying osteopathy at the University College of Osteopathy – UCO (previously British School of Osteopathy (BSO))
Sports therapy is wrongly named as it covers many conditions, as well as general muscle pain, tears and pulls, other disorders such as Spondylitis and Rheumatoid arthritis, Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis. It covers therapy after invasive back surgery (rehabilitation and recovery).
Saying this it also covers sports related injuries, torn calf muscles, overuse injuries and general soft tissue problems, tendonitis and SI joint pain, neck pain and sedentary issues. It covers most injuries and pain from sitting at a desk all day to cycling up a mountain.
I have over seven years’ practical experience of being a soft tissue/massage therapist. To create a program of treatment for my clients, to help them better understand what is going on with their body (body mapping) and how we can both help to combat whatever their problem may be, as well as to help them maintain a better pain free lifestyle. Also, for my triathletes to keep their muscles healthy and free of injury. Prevention rather than cure in some cases.
2016 – I worked as senior therapist on the London to Monaco cycle event, working with the cyclists to keep them healthy and fit so that they were able to continue and finish the event, it was over 10 days, flat, hilly and mountainous territory. I am continuing to treat some of the cyclists at home in London, UK.
I worked in the Alps 2015 and 2016 for, Morzine Massage. (winter and summer) – treating skiers and snowboarders, ski instructors, skiers training for Euro Test, locals as well as tourists. Also working on the cyclists, mountain bikers and the cyclists in the ETAPS over the summer. Working on groin injuries, ACL and medial collateral injuries; muscle tear recovery and regaining flexibility, I also treated sciatic problems, planta fasciitis and have treated paraplegics. Preparing some clients for races and treating general injuries. I continue to visit Morzine to work when I can, as well as other events such as the Cowes boating race and the ‘Snow and Ski’ show in London, UK. I also went to work at the 100 mile run through the Cotswolds in 2016 and will be working with the same group of people for 2018.
In 2013, I was part of a group called the, Healing Exchange, where therapists come together and share ideas. We volunteered for team events such as local races (at home and abroad) to pass on any information/skill sharing ideas/courses such as myofascial work – that has helped other therapists and opened the doors to another type of massage that has become so important in soft tissue therapy.
In 2012 I volunteered in a group for the London Marathon working for the charity Meningitis. I treated the runners as they finished the race back to recovery, and home.
I work with PTs, nutritionists, osteopaths and other complementary therapists and health practitioners.
